Artist communities are places that provide temporary time, space, and support for the creation of new work. While the term artist is usually used in more limited contexts, residency centers actually serve creation of all kinds – visual and performing artists, designers, poets, writers, humanists, and scholars. We use artist as shorthand to encompass all such individuals engaged in creative work.

Artist communities have been described as the Research and Development arm of the arts by supporting people in their creative endeavors. Artist communities provide an alternative to traditional grants and fellowships. They are rapidly gaining recognition as innovative sources of direct support and funding to independent artists.

  • Cultivate an atmosphere that allows networking opportunities for learning, research, consultations, workshops and training seminars.
  • Enliven the Adams County Community through diverse, cultural events, classes and seminars.
  • Become a cultural destination for tourists, students and new citizens.
