About the Exhibition:

CCFA is proud to present the work of Amy Nelson and Tracy Shell, both professors in the Omaha area, Nelson at Creighton University, and Shell at Midland Lutheran, as the inaugural exhibition in our new rotating exhibitions series.  The first Saturday of each month CCFA will open a new dynamic exhibition featuring artwork not seen before in Southwest Iowa. The ceramic artwork of Amy Nelson and Tracy Shell relates to, is derived from, or characterizes living things. The objects, both sculptural and utilitarian, appear familiar yet simultaneously foreign. The artwork of each artist finds its commonality in the abstraction of living systems related to sex and reproduction. Laden with sexual symbolism, the artwork in this exhibition investigates biological processes. Through the use of biological forms to generate dialogue, the “natural” and “organic” intermingle with social structures, influencing and framing their cultural significance.
